2 bedroom apartment: is it the right choice for you?

Whether you’re searching for a 2 bedroom apartment just for yourself, or you have a better half you plan to live with, here are a few questions that will help you to find out the type of apartment will best suit your needs.

How much are you willing to pay?

Take this question into consideration, no matter if you plan to rent or to buy. In both cases, the price will be higher than for a 1 bedroom apartment. Also, keep in mind that during the winter, the heating bill will also increase for a bigger surface. So, a good idea would be to live with someone that you could share the rent and/or split the monthly expenses with. Overall, the 2 bedroom apartment comes with higher costs, but also with more space. So if the financial part is not a problem, then the choice is pretty clear.

How much space will you actually need?

If you plan to live alone in a 2 bedroom apartment, you can easily turn one room into a bedroom and the second one in a livingroom. Having around >40 sqm at your disposal, for sure you will have space for everything you need.
But you have to think also at how much of a hoarder are you. If you like to collect and keep everything, whether you need it or not, it could turn out that a 2 bedroom apartment is really not enough.
Choose wisely what items you actually need, and throw out the others.
And if you’re going to live in only one room while you use the other one just are storage space, ask yourself if you are willing to pay 100 euro+ / month for a big closet.

Will you bring a new member to the family anytime soon?

Buying or renting a 2 bedroom apartment, just for you or for you and your better half will be enough most probably until you bring someone new to the family. It could be a dog or a baby, it doesn’t really matter, since you’ll have to reorganize the space either way.
We know, it’s difficult to think ahead about the unexpected, but just try to picture a little how it would be like to bring someone into your living style and habit.
If the apartment you plan to move in can accommodate you plus 2, then you’re about to make a good decision.

How often do you share your couch with someone?

If you often have friends sleeping over, or relatives that come to visit regularly, then a couch in a different room is exactly what you would need. It gives both of you privacy and you wouldn’t have to squeeze in a small one room apartment.
On the other hand, if this is a seldom event, think if it’s worth paying monthly for living conditions that you don’t actually need.

How much time do you actually spend at home?

We think this question is pretty important and you should give it a second thought. Depending on your lifestyle, you spend more or less time at your place, and “home” means a different thing for you than for other people.
When you’re “young and restless” you probably don’t stay at home too much, therefore a one room apartment can be enough. On the other hand, if you’re past a certain age and habit, you want your place to be as spacious and clean as possible, as you spend most of your time indoor.

If you’re not sure if you should go for a one bedroom or 2 bedroom apartment, our questions can help guide you with your decision. By taking into consideration how much you are willing to pay and what your lifestyle is, the choice will become pretty clear for you.
